Full Moon Over Española

I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade... And try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.
— Ron White

Oh my, how I had such high hopes and dreams about what this last week might look like. Needless to say, I was knocked off my dream horse and set most uncomfortably in the middle of some authentically humxn experiences. Much to my chagrin, of course. Can I blame the recent full moon? Please? Mercury RX, too? Alas, this week’s summary will be short and perhaps more salty than sweet. (jk jk jk jk) In short, I got to see how I would feel, behave, react, and respond to coming down with a mystery illness whilst semi hosting my budding romance and her friends here in Española. I won’t dwell on the past too, too much, but will express my gratitude for such warm, chill, no pressure, and accepting folx. And let’s just say, I handled it all with zero grace, and was still met with compassion and more electrolyte drinks than I realized existed. Kendahl is the MVP. And her friends and their pups, too.

The gang arrived late Thursday evening, and we celebrated all the getting to know you’s with pink bubbles at the casita’s hot tub in the common area. (Is the hot tub where I picked up said mystery illness? We will never know…) What a promising start to our long weekend together! The next morning I wasn’t feeling so hot, and at first blamed it on nerves and maybe all dat pink bubbly, but things progressed and I started to feel increasigly worse in all manner of ways. Thankfully, Kendahl wasn’t stuck with just sickie me, and her and her friends were able to go and enjoy all the super fun things they planned to do. Her friends also brought two of their pups and Finley was in heaven!

Not all was lost. After day two of my misery, the fog started to clear and made a way for Kendahl and I to enjoy the last 2.5 days together after her friends had to head back to Colorado. We were able to spend an afternoon into the full moon starry night at Ojo Caliente, and afterwards enjoy a beautiful dinner at the resort. Monday we played tourists and visited downtown Santa Fe, the Georgia O’Keeffe museum, and my new favorite little cafe, Cake’s Corner.

This Friday I have two more VIPs coming to join me, Laura and Cheryl! It’s also my birthday weekend, and we have a good mix of art, culture, nature, and soaking planned. Hopefully no more mystery illnesses will join the party.

Despite the unfortunate nature of the unexpected, I am still quite grateful for the people that surround me, and show up even in the ick. Thank you, endlessly. I’ll leave the rest to the sweet set of photographs below, always in chronological order.

Love,
Jessica, Finley, and Pito
